Free Studio Class time- How about just ONE principle?
(Umm or 2)
Yokes
(or horizontal stylelines) can be highly visible or very “hidden” fit details. A shaped waistband on pants or a skirt versus is drafted like a yoke.
Most likely when you think of a yoke you think of a Western Cowboy style shirt with a shaped yoke in the front or back.
A “technically”, a yoke is usually a smooth, flat area on the bodice or skirt that anchors a garment to the body……
It is generally horizontal on the body (if it’s vertical we’ll call it a styleline)
—and then the yoke gets a panel of smooth fabric, gathers, pleats, or flares stitched into IT that creates and holds volume or fit to build a silhouette.
😳😳IS THAT TECHY TALK??😬😬
Here’s a single lesson about yokes That’s NOT included on my Patternmaking Demystified course page.
And as an extra bonus,…
FLARES.
I’ve also added one about draping FLARES in muslin, and supported that with this ADDITIONAL video about designing and sketching with them….
MAYBE this feels so TECHY at a distance but it isn’t all about that. I hope you can feel that in the videos.
In all of my programs, whatever “technical” thing is (structure) becomes something you EMBODY and take in as aprt ofyou by letting that information wash over you…..
yes, now you are FAMILIAR with the CONCEPT….
And you can master it, but
the way we MASTER a things is by PLAYING WITH THEM!
WE LEARN THROUGH EXPERIENCES.
Pleasurable and playful ones.
It’s about the poetry that comes through when you engage with a technique.
And that’s what we are here for and I can’t wait to support you on your journey inPatternmaking Demystified.
